A New Art Endeavor!

Hi Everyone! For the past 15 years I have been painting my Kilkenny Cat paintings, and every now and then I would paint something a little different, and most every time I did I would get concerned comments that I was changing my art. The latest one really made me start thinking about what that implied, and honestly I didn’t like it. I shouldn’t be tied to someone else’s expectations of what my art should be. My art is my own, and it’s whatever I want it to be, what ever I want to paint, you know? Not everyone is going to like it, and I don’t expect them to-where it’s my usual kitties, or my 3 a.m. Monster kitties, or funky kitties…or Picklelips.

So with that said, I decided to create a second art profile where I paint whatever silly idea pops into my head, not specifically “what are the kitties doing today,” but just any random thought. With that, I want to introduce Picklelips! My new outlet for fun and funky paintings. Sometimes I’ll even paint the same subject, like a KilkennyCat vs Picklelips kind of thing…which I’ve already done twice! If you’re interested in following the Picklelips Art, you can find it on Twitter @PicklelipsArt, Instagram @PicklelipsArt, Facebook @Picklelips.

A friend nominated me for some black and white challenge- 1 image a day for 5 days. Naturally I can’t take just one picture. Anna was first up.

Skellie Cats & Horse

I don’t know about you, but when the summer weather turns stormy and dark, I long for autumn. It’s not the rain and storms that make me long for it, but the awful humidity. “If it was just a wee bit cooler, and leaves were falling, this could be autumn!” So anyway, that makes me want to paint for Halloween. p.s. there are only 109 days left until Halloween!

“The Skellie Cats”

-Painted with Golden acrylics.
-Approx. 10″ x 7 1/4″ x 1″ Piece of pine (left over from shelves I put up)
-Topped with two coats of gloss varnish.
-Signed, titled, and dated on the back by me!

It seems that this year the skellie cats have found themselves a better way to get to the Halloween party! Nothing was more fitting to carry them, than a skellie horse!

The Eternal Dance

The Eternal Dance
Just a quick little photo shoot to end the day. It was rather hard to keep the kittens out of the shot. This kitten, Apple, worked rather well so I kept him in. =)

64 Days until Halloween!

Halloween tree with mummies
Can you believe it? It’s almost that time again and I’m so excited! Of course I’m panicking as well, trying to remember where I’ve scribbled down ideas for the children’s costumes. My son is 13 and if I remember correctly, last year I bribed him into letting this year be the last year I get to choose what he will be. =D That being said, it’s also ornament time! I’m working on a couple of new Halloween cat ornaments this year that I hope to have ready to debut in the next few days (along with Volvo 244 ones.) Here’s the collection of Halloween cat ornaments available now!

FolklΓ³rico Frida

FolklΓ³rico Frida

This festive moment almost didn’t happen, when the Mariachi band was down one member. Thankfully the skellie cat stepped in with some maracas to accompany Frida’s dance!

Trick or Treating

From an on going series of trick or treating kitties, who make their way through the forest to a Halloween party. =)

Trick or treat!

Here’s a little painting of the “behind-the-scenes” of the mummy cat getting ready to head to the party. Two skellie kitties had to help him with the wrappings. =P

In Dreams and Top 5!

Guess what?! I got to be the first guinea pig to act as a guest picking the Top 5 over at Froknowsphoto.com! The theme was “City” and I tried to stick to the theme. There were a lot of great photos, and narrowing it down to 5 was actually harder than it might seem. Really made me appreciate, even more, what Jared Polin does just on the weekend themes. I skyped with Jared to explain my top 5 picks and the new theme. (I picked that too!)

So the new weekend theme is, “In Dreams”, because I wanted to try to make it fun and creative…but still allowing a WIDE variety of submissions. I mean really, we all know how vast dreams are. My submissions are two different themes. First being the “Eternal Bath”, which could go two ways. One, dreaming of bubble baths that never go cold (hello right?), or darker with dying in the tub. Don’t ask, nothing I’ve personally dreamed of but the idea was there.

The other idea involved Anna, which I can’t help but photograph her, she’s such a willing model! The idea is that in dreams she’s lost in the forest, afraid, until she happens upon a family of forest elves and ends up helping them collect acorns. My mom just happened to have these old elf dolls that she put on my son’s shelf, much to his disapproval. He thinks they’re a bit creepy.
