This ginger tabby cat is offering up a latte of love! =)
As I sit here typing, looking out my front window onto the foggy hills, I’m super excited at the crisp feeling of fall in the air! Finally we have some reprieve from the oppressive humidity that plagued this part of Pennsylvania this summer. With that said, I’ve been painting non-stop Halloween and Autumn paintings for a week. I need to catch up posting them here on the blog, so here are a couple new Halloween Witch Cats for 2016. =)
“A Girl and Her Gingers”
She loved her ginger cats very much, and gave them special one-on-one time. Sometimes, Apple wanted more time, even if Rosie was already curled up on her lap. So Apple would sit to the side, and stare.
An original watercolor painting.
Painted on Stratmore 400 series, cold pressed watercolor paper. Acid free, heavy weight.
Painted area 7″ x 8″, paper size 8″ x 10″ – sprayed with a matte varnish.

When cats dream, they dream of some exciting things! =)
Painting inspired by my portrait, “Sleeping Puddy, Paper Cranes.”
Willow below, ย showing me how cats really jump. =P
Fourteen years ago we found this beautiful ginger kitty outside an abandoned house in snowy southern Oregon. There were several cats around that house, but they all seemed skittish or feral. Neighbors said they’d seen the fluffy orange cat in the area for years, but that he had no home. We put food out and my Mom would call, “Puuuuddy, Puuuuuddy cat.” He was the only cat who would come to her. When we learned he was declawed, we couldn’t leave him outside, so Puddy came to live with us. Today Puddy is going to his absolute forever home, as he’s become so old and frail, and his hypothyroidism is beyond manage. Our hearts are broken but we’re forever grateful for the many years we had with Puddy cat. <3
I’m used to painting on wood, so delving into watercolors on paper was bit of a change for me. I knew there had to be a way to be able to paint with the watercolors, and still use my wood. Then I found watercolor ground! I wasn’t sure how well it was going to work, but I put a couple layers on top of the wood, waited a couple days for it to cure, and voila! It worked. I was pleasantly surprised at just how absorbent the ground is, almost more than the standard paper. I’m happy to be able to offer watercolor paintings on wood, as well as on paper.
A Portrait of a Ginger is painted after my Puddy cat. He’s so old these days, maybe 15-18. We never knew his age for certain. We found him one snowy day in Klamath Falls, Oregon. There was an abandoned house on the property next to a house we just rented. Lots of cats lived there, they came and went, and we’d leave food out for them. One day, with a plate of food in hand, my Mom called out, “kitties! puddy!” and this super fluffy ginger cat came running. He was the only one who came to us. We soon found out someone had declawed him and dumped him.
We asked the neighbors around the area if they knew who he belonged to, but no one knew. We asked how long he’d been out there, and most people said they’d seen him for at least a few years. We took him in. That was 14 years ago. Puddy has since lost the majority of his fluff, and is so thin these days, eating about 5-6 plates of food throughout the day (small amounts really.) But he’s still as playful as a kitten! I thought it was definitely time to paint Puddy’s portrait. =)
