Ok, so I wasn’t sure if I’d get around to taking photos of the kittens in scarves, like I did the cats last year. Guess what? I did! I had an hour to spare and my Mother was willing to be the cat handler. Enjoy cute kittens in scarves!

More Autumness
A friend recently said to me that if I wanted more reds and yellows during autumn, the Eastern part of the state is where I wanted to be. Well, who knew?! I guess it’s just another slight downfall to buying a house online and moving across country. Everything seems so…brownish here, unless you’re looking at trees in people’s yards, there you’ll see the reds and yellows!
Autumn!
The Rockland Tunnel
We decided to take Fionnoula on a walk through the Rockland Tunnel today and take some pictures. I wanted to go early in the morning, since every morning I’ve left for work at the deli it’s been super foggy out. Of course it wasn’t today… Next time? Anyhow, I love this old tunnel! Built in 1915 as a railway tunnel, the craftsmanship that went into creating this half mile tunnel is superb. Unfortunately, like with everything, it’s been tagged to hell on the inside, with said taggers leaving their trash along the walls. It’s not even interesting or artful graffiti, it’s just crap like, “insert name sucks insert body part”, or backwards swastikas, badly drawn marijuana leaves, etc. There was one that made me stop in my tracks as I was using a flash. I didn’t include it in the photos below, but I’ll eventually share it. It was an outline of a woman’s body in a little alcove. The flash made it seem as though someone was standing there in the shadows. Kind of creepy! But today I’m just sharing pictures of Anna and Fionnoula “exploring” the tunnel. =)
Hello Autumn!
I’ve been working so much between the deli and my art, that I feel as though I’m missing the beginning of autumn. So the other day we went for a walk along the river, at Oil Creek State Park. It seems I was partly correct as most of the leaves had fallen already on this pathway I’d been looking forward to walking. Oh well, we still managed some shots.
Bringing Home the Pumpkins
Rosebud in a Pumpkin
I’m really hoping our blue pumpkins grow this year! The past couple years the pumpkins have been overtaken by either blight or eggs from squash bugs or the little white butterflies that lay their eggs under the leaves. Crossing my fingers, because I’ve got a few little ginger kittens that might want to pose in a blue pumpkin!
Halloween!
This is our third year celebrating Halloween in PA, and it’s going to be the rainiest one yet. I’m glad we’re not painting our faces this year! I took some photos of the Halloween-ness around the house. A couple of them I tried to HDR but I really don’t play with Photomatix enough to realize what I’m supposed to be doing. It’s just random moving sliders here and there. I took 6 pictures of the living room at different exposures and still ended up blurry on one side. I was using a tripod and a remote shutter, so not sure what went wrong there. Oh well, still shows the room!
Here’s a little pumpkin house we found the other day. I love this house so much! It’s in some tiny rural town, who’s name totally escapes me right now. Oh, wait I think it was Fertigs, PA!
Lastly, to all my East Coast readers/friends/family, please stay safe out there!
Kids and Leaves
It wouldn’t be normal if I didn’t include some pictures of the kids in the leaves at the neighbor’s house. Anna could barely contain herself and kept walking around and making leaf piles. Late in the day she ended up grabbing armfuls of leaves to decorate our little Halloween cemetery in front of the house.
This picture is after Anna crumbled leaves into my hair, then giggled and ran off. I decided she also needed leaves smashed into her hair.
This is from two years ago, same leaves, same kids (ha ha), just smaller. I love seeing how they’ve grown!
Cats in Scarves
Have I mentioned here we have 7 cats? I’m not sure I have. Well, we do. It wasn’t on purpose. We moved here from Portland, Oregon with 2 cats, Puddy and Merlin.
While driving to New Hampshire this time 2 years ago, we decided to take Route 8 and go the long way, just touring Pennsylvania. We got about 3 hours out until we happened upon these signs for a “Haunted Barn!” Being that we were lollygagging and had set no time limit for our trip, we decided to follow the signs. They led into a back road, I don’t even know what town we were in, but it just kept going and going. Starting to hear banjos in our heads, we turned around and stopped at this big rig trailer that was on the side of the road. It had some funky dinosaur graffiti we wanted to photograph. While taking pictures, my Mom and I kept hearing tiny cat meows. There was a bunch of trash all around this trailer and who knew where a kitty would be hiding. It wasn’t long until we realized it was coming from a closed box. We opened the box and there were two TINY little black kittens. Needless to say, we were horrified. We scooped up the babies and headed home. After months and months of medical attention for parasites, our two new black babies were healthy. That’s Carbon Copy and Violet Nightshade.
Then there was Dahlia, Dahlia the beautiful dilute Tortie. She was abandoned, and just like Puddy cat, declawed on the front paws. Like a double dose of sadness, so we had to let her into our home.
There are two more kitties, one that was our neighbor’s roommate until she left one drunken night. Poor Fluffernutter kitty would come to our porch and scratch at the windows, covered with bits of ice and snow. Eventually, against our will (we realized we didn’t need another cat), we let him in. I’m not crazy enough to put Fluffernutter on a leash, he’s too crazy! Then there’s Lily. Lily is a semi-feral cat who came from Lancaster, Pa. A friend of my mother’s had posted on facebook how Halloween was approaching, and there was this little black cat who was hanging around when her mother went outside for coffee. She said her mom had been feeding the kitty, but they couldn’t take it in. We drove halfway to State College, Pa to meet Lily, and take her home. I’m also not crazy enough to try to put Lily on a leash for a photo in a scarf. She still growls when you pick her up, but sleeps with my mother every night, like a loving little kitty. =)
