She Was A Crow

I had an idea for which I needed some wings. After exhausting my search online, reading reviews of wings with feathers falling off immediately after opening the package, I figured, “I could make wings…how hard could it be?” So Anna and I made some last night.  Anna said she wanted to be a crow for Halloween after we made the wings, so my original idea morphed into making her a crow. She said she’d like a beak for Halloween-I’m sure we can make one of those too. =P

Oh, and it’s snowing! We’re supposed to get 6-10 inches, so we’ll see. It started out very slowly this morning but it’s picking up now and starting to stick. I’d like to get this other idea out of my head and photographed soon, so I’d appreciate a lot of snow!

Anna Bear

This year Anna insisted she wanted to be a bear. Her best friend is going to be a bunny so the obvious choice for Anna was a bear, right? I tried to talk her into being a fox, but relented when I realized it was her choice. I just so happened to have two different types of fur I’d bought back in Portland about 5 years ago. I can’t remember exactly what project I’d envisioned using such fur, but I had it and that was great for now! I’d been putting off making Anna’s bear costume because I’m not much of a seamstress. I can repair seams, sew buttons, I have a sewing machine, and know what a running stitch is, but this thick furry fabric was scaring me. Thankfully my mother simplified it. “Just double the fabric, lay Anna on top of it, and draw out a tunic, voila!” This was after we’d magically found a black bear hat at TJ Maxx yesterday. I felt more confident now that I didn’t have to sew a hood as well. /phew So, here’s Anna as the bear, a cute bear, not a scary bear, as she wanted.

Silence

The new theme for this weekend, and lasting for two weeks this time, is “Silence.” I wanted to make Anna into a ventriloquist’s dummy, and my son Tiarnan as the ventriloquist. Now, mind you, they’re both doing cyber school with live classes at certain times, and I thought I’d catch them in between class and do a quick shoot. We had storms coming soon and I have this tiny little problem where if I have an idea in my mind, I need to expel that idea. Get it over and out of my mind so I can move on. So after running around the house grabbing the clothes the kids would wear, and working on Anna’s makeup, I realized time was going down fast. So I did less on her makeup than planned, hustled the kids out front and grabbed a chair on the way out. There are a lot of things I’d like to have done differently, but ended up having only about 10 minutes to get some shots. I’m happy with what we ended up with. =)

The Ventriloquist and Dummy

My thought behind “silence” in this picture is pretty obvious- without the ventriloquist’s voice, the dummy is silent.
