Hooray! It’s kind of a big deal in our house! Ok, not really, since every day is “cat day” in our house. Still, in honor of today, I figured I’d stalk my children (who always have cats nearby) while they’re in cyber school, and take some pictures. (Really any excuse to take photos…)
*Edit, I realized I should probably toss in a watercolor I did this morning, in honor of today. =P
Ahh April, you have arrived! We turned our heater down the other day, for the first time in months to 55 but promptly turned it up again last night. Not quite a warm spring just yet. The kids enjoyed a couple days of playing with the boys on the corner. Today was definitely not one of those days-I guess they don’t play in mud like we used to.
I wanted to show just how large Rosebud kitten has grown in the past 9 months. He’s HUGE! His two sisters, Dorian and Willow, are still skinny, willowy little girls. I thought re-shooting the Scary Story Time would work. However, Rosebud was in no way going to sit on Anna’s shoulder, so we just shot what we could. =)
Once upon a time, when I was maybe 8, I ran away from home with my older brother. We were being rather bad and tossing notes over the fence of a school across the street. When we were busted and knew they’d called our parents, we came up with the brilliant plan of running away. Where would we go? No clue, we’d just walk! I put on my best dress, fishnet tights, and my Strawberry Shortcake doll. Somehow we ended up on a military base of some sort in Newhall, Ca (I think it was Newhall) and at a guard’s insistence, my brother caved and gave our phone number to him so they could call our parents. I was disappointed.
This quick little shoot wasn’t depicting a child running away, but as I was dressing Anna, my Mom brought it up. Instead of Strawberry Shortcake, Anna was taking the cat…but not running away, just going to her Amma’s house. =P
In a sharp contrast to yesterday’s reading photos, this wasn’t planned, there just happened to be a barbecuing thing that looked like the well from Ringu (the Ring for those who’ve only seen the American version…) Anna as Sadako (Samara US version). So, yeah, balancing out sweetness with a little darkness. I love how Anna is always game!
Initially when I had thought of this idea, it became a painting and actually not scary at all. I think the girl in my story ended up on bed with two kittens laying on either side of her. The book, Moby Dick. But this is what I had in mind from the beginning. Weird thing, I like spooky stuff but I’m apparently only able to paint cute things. What can you do? Not that these pictures are scary by any stretch of the imagination, I mean there’s kittens for crying out loud! =P But Dante’s Inferno just adds a bit of darkness. For the record, the book was opened to a blank page.
I had an idea for which I needed some wings. After exhausting my search online, reading reviews of wings with feathers falling off immediately after opening the package, I figured, “I could make wings…how hard could it be?” So Anna and I made some last night. Â Anna said she wanted to be a crow for Halloween after we made the wings, so my original idea morphed into making her a crow. She said she’d like a beak for Halloween-I’m sure we can make one of those too. =P
Oh, and it’s snowing! We’re supposed to get 6-10 inches, so we’ll see. It started out very slowly this morning but it’s picking up now and starting to stick. I’d like to get this other idea out of my head and photographed soon, so I’d appreciate a lot of snow!
